Idaho Fish and Game: Hunter Education and Firearm Safety course

This course is FULL.  You can sign up for the Wait List by filling out the Sage Registration at the bottom of this page.  The IDFG website will no longer take registrations.

  Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 19th through April 4th, with two Friday morning sessions on March 22nd and April 5th.  See exact dates and times below.

Ages:  Open to students (ages 9 and above) and adults.  The general public will be invited but priority will be given to the Sage community first.  Space is limited.

Cost:  $9.75, through IDFG.  Scholarships are always available through Sage Expeditions.  Please read the description on the Sage Expeditions website and then email Eric Wakild at to discuss the options.

Expedition Description:
This course will provide instruction in the areas of: firearm handling and safety; hunting law and ethics; responsibilities towards landowners; hunting skills; wildlife identification; survival skills and first aid; and management and conservation.  Hunter Education Certification cards will be awarded to students upon successful completion of the course, which includes attending all class sessions, passing the field exercises and a written test.  If you were born on or after January 1, 1975, you must complete a hunter education course to purchase a hunting license OR show proof of a previously held license in Idaho or another state.  Please visit the Idaho Fish and Game website to pay.

Time:  Here is the detailed schedule.  All sessions are at Sage except for the April 5th field trip:

For the first 7 sessions, we will meet at Sage.  Be prepared to be in a classroom environment.  For April 5th, please dress for the weather – while it could be cold outside.  Dress in layers that can be taken on or off and be ready with rain gear.  Food will not be provided - please bring snacks and a water bottle if you would like.   

Please feel out the Registration Form to sign up your student.  Please print and sign the Risk Waiver (You only need to complete this once per year for day/weekend trips).  If your student will be bringing and taking medication on the trip, please complete and turn in this Medication Form.
