Austin Weeks

Austin Weeks, Science, TOK & CP Reflective Project

In the early 80’s the movies were formulaic, the music was iffy, comic books were mostly forgettable, and fashion was horrid but from the chaos came one who would find his passion in revealing the wonders of the world to the open minds around him.  When he was 6 years old Mr. Weeks asked his great grandfather while they gazed at the night sky, “What do I have to learn to study the stars?” To which his grandfather replied, “Physics and science I suppose.”   In High school, Mr. Weeks was known for his rose garden and star gazing trips where he grew up and his love for science propagated.  It was at this point a few inspiring teachers encouraged him to consider teaching as he found a satisfaction finding new ways to convey information to struggling peers.

At the College of Idaho Mr. Weeks happily earned a Physics degree and an Idaho teaching certificate but, in the true liberal arts tradition, also minored in art, studied world religions and published a few poems.  Over the next six years Mr. Weeks had the honor to teach at an alternative middle school and an International Baccalaureate high school both in Meridian Idaho.  He is now elated to be teaching science at Sage international school where he hopes to connect with his students through his love for science, good storytelling via comic books, cooking, gardening, and meaningful conversation.
